Is It Running?
By William Saroyan
Keep on straight ahead in the new direction
and try to be happy.
Fight off despair and try to be happy.
Pace yourself fast enough so that what you
leave behind can't catch up with you.
Above all, don't look back until you know
you are far enough away so that what
you see won't hurt you.
I help people to figure if hey are far enough away from the pain
I help people to figure out how to get far enough away from the pain so that what they see won't hurt them
What is your answer to the title of the poem?
* The answer can change over time, month to month, year to year.
* Sometimes it is running, sometimes coping, sometimes just being. William Saroyan and his family fled...
the Armenian Holocaust. He wrote the poem from experience as he kept moving forward.
To me, it is not running, it is moving forward.
